Portrait Frequently Asked Questions

What will the photo shoot be like?
All shoots take place outdoors in an easy relaxed atmosphere that emphasizes natural interaction and play. I encourage kids and families to be themselves. I require only minimal posing and encourage you to carry on as if I wasn’t there.

Some nervousness is natural, but I guarantee that your photo shoot with me will be easy and fun. My business is not a high volume photography machine that churns through dozens of photo sessions every week. I strive to develop a personalized, highly trusting relationship with my clients, many of whom rely on me year after year to document the amazing changes in their growing families. From baby and pregnancy pictures to graduates and family events – I enjoy the whole story and it is my privilege to capture it for you.

What if I just want my children photographed?
Often, when it’s just the kiddos I’m photographing, the best results are achieved without the immediate presence of the parents. As a former children’s’ ski instructor and educator, I’m very comfortable with kids of all ages and most children are very comfortable with me.  For very young children (0 - 6 years) I encourage you to bring favorite playthings or toys that are appropriate for outdoor play. It is also important that they are well rested and fueled up! Feel free to bring snacks or beverages.

Will my children get dirty or wet during the photo shoot?
Quite possibly! Kids will be kids and you are hiring me to capture that essence. We often play for a while before shooting begins. Comfortable play clothes are essential. This may include bathing suits, towels and appropriate footwear. For wintertime shoots when we might be building a snowman or making snow angels, appropriate warm, dry clothing is very important.

How will I take delivery of my photos?
All of your photos and products will be delivered via UPS or Priority Mail.

Do I place my print orders through you or can I print them myself?
With the exception of graduate proofs and any hand painted pieces you may order, you are in control of all of your print needs. This eliminates photographer mark-up and delay. You are free to print images yourself on your home or office computer, or you can take your photo CD to your local photo lab and let them take care of it. In addition there are many easy, high quality internet printing services that offer endless products and creative options for showing off your pictures.

You have complete control, over what kind of prints you get, what size, when you print them and how much you pay for them. You purchase only the prints you need in the sizes and quantities that fit those needs.  I do not offer print packages as I’ve found that clients prefer this kind of freedom and flexibility, which insures you aren’t forced to purchase any prints that you don’t need in sizes that you don’t want, as part of your photo shoot.
